Enhanced wellness offerings are now expected in the hotel industry, but how about the physical and energetic wellness of the space itself? Non-toxic materials. sustainability and WELL standards are a good start, but fundamental energy wellness is still an under-leveraged asset of spatial design. This is the secret ingredient to a reliably replicable feel-good experience that any consummate hotelier or wellness brand seeks to offer guests.
From private woodland Kung Fu Kwoons, urban spas and Forest Wellness Centres to 230000m2 mixed-use developments, 64-acre artist villages and 74-acre retreat centres, and private residential wellness homes, Sarah has infused the ancient wisdom of classical healing feng shui into all her collaborations with design professionals as well as running complete renovations of London properties through her company Feng Shui Agency. Since 2003, Sarah has created unique spaces using eco-friendly materials, recycled rubber flooring, hemp-covered sofas, air & water filtration, and low-energy lighting well before ‘wellness or sustainable architecture’ were buzzwords. Similarly, her company Feng Shui Agency was one of the first corporate sponsors of Naturefund in 2005, well before ‘doing good’ in business was trendy and now owns many acres of rainforest for protection.
Having served on global design think tanks and spoken, taught & consulted all over the world, Sarah is delighted to see her niche becoming better understood & valued, as architects are finally calling for spaces to be designed with the physical, emotional and spiritual well-being of occupants in mind – something that Sarah has pioneered for two decades.
Curating Exquisite & Luminous Spaces
It took Sarah quite some time to understand that she was an artist. While there is a complex methodology and imperative rules within classical feng shui, applying the technique in the real world requires high levels of creativity. Whereas interior designers and architects think in terms of visual appeal and structural utility, or their brand palette – as a Feng Shui master, Sarah thinks in terms of design energetics to create spaces with an exquisite ambience that helps people to feel expanded in mind, body and soul. Her spaces are harmonious and high-vibrational, where people feel inclined to rest, unwind, and let their true selves emerge; just as Sarah’s calm manner is an endorsement of her authentic practice, the spaces she designs support vibrant health and radiance.
Feng Shui is one of the 8 Brocades of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
The ancient science of Traditional Chinese Medicine is an incredibly accurate framework for understanding health, and Feng Shui is part of the Eight Brocades of Chinese Medicine. Sarah also adds amazingly insightful Chinese Astrology considerations to the design of the space so that a person’s most vital elemental directions are well supported in the layout and not drained. Then the entire build process is timed to align with natural energy cycles, thus creating a type of ‘biodynamic architecture’.
No Feng Shui? Then there is no true wellness…
Since Feng Shui is such an essential part of Chinese Medicine, Sarah asserts that no space can genuinely call itself a wellness spa or wellness retreat without the expert application of classical Feng Shui. Over her 25-year career in holistic well-being and energy design, Sarah has seen time and time again the detrimental effects of poor feng shui or, worse, the half-hearted application. Spaces feel tense or ungrounded, even if they LOOK stunning. Some areas are disorientating, even with clear signage. Architects have confessed over the years that they can’t quite put their finger on why some spaces don’t feel right, and yet Sarah can diagnose why a space feels ‘off’ with her complex arsenal of classical methodology & techniques to restore the elemental balance and energy ‘line dragons’ – think of her work as ‘acupuncture for space’.
Good Feng Shui Should Be Felt and Not Seen
While Asian style design is hugely popular in the West, space does not need to look Chinese to have excellent feng shui. Sarah very rarely asks clients to implement anything too exotic looking.
Sarah is the female founder of two companies and is now inviting visionary investors to have the opportunity to work with her on her proprietary wellness village & hotel spa retreat concept.
