Alongside being a leading architectural powder coater, Powdertech Corby has developed its own unique range of finishes. These closely follow the latest leanings in design style for colour and texture amongst interior designers and architects.
The hospitality sector is adventurous in terms of design and frequently amongst the first to explore and even drive the latest trends in interior and exterior architecture. Powdertech works with architects, interior designers, construction companies, hotel chains, restaurants, educational and health establishments and similar to advise and apply that finishing touch to all construction projects – the final coating on architectural metal work.
Properties as diverse as the vibrant ‘Campus Kitchen’ at Leicester University and the reflective peaceful Iona Abbey have used Powdertech’s ‘Rust’ range of finishes for interior metal work as illustrated above.
The natural appearance of rusted steel has been popularised by the product Corten but Powdertech’s powder coatings present none of the concerns of Corten. There is no run-off after rain causing staining and no need for sealant. The finish requires only minimal maintenance – a quick rinse with water. This ever-popular industrial look can be applied to both aluminium and mild steel and is being used to stunning effect country wide. ‘Industrialism’ presents a strong simple aesthetic, with an emphasis on raw, natural materials, preferably aged with beautiful patination. More examples of this fascinating range of finishes can be found on building exteriors in England, Scotland and Ireland as the images show. Sunlight moving across the flat, profiled and perforated surfaces creates an ever-changing landscape of colour.
Within Powdertech’s ‘Evolution’ range are recreations of oxidised/rusted iron, steel and bronze and the blue/green verdigris shade of weathered copper. As with the shades of ‘Rust’ these finishes are “consistently inconsistent”, accurately reflecting natural oxidation and patination.
There is also a trend towards a simple more streamlined industrialised approach, still celebrating the rawness and beauty of metal. For designers pursuing this route Powdertech’s ‘Satellite’ range brings the beauty of metal to life with a depth of colour unrivalled in a one-coat application. Metallic and pearlescent effects provide stunning visual depth and mesmerism as natural light plays across the surface.
Where vibrant paintbox colours with a difference are favoured, Powdertech has developed ‘Zest’, a range of mouth-watering energetic shades bringing added pizzazz to any project. These are ‘sweet shop’ colours – reminiscent of sherbets or, on a more contemporary note, fruit and berry crushes.
All of these original and striking powder coatings offer a wide playground for designers to literally ‘go to town’ with beautiful eye-catching interior and exterior creations. The sustainability of aluminium (and steel) makes architectural metalwork the more popular. As for powder coating themselves, they are free of VOCs, halogens and heavy metals and leave no hazardous residue. Powdertech’s coating also conform to the reaction to fire rating ‘A2, s1-d0. All powders are Qualicoat class 1 or class 2 approved and conform to BS EN12206.
